So, it's Philosopher here. Just a little update on a post I made a few months back, regarding an upbringing with a sexually & physically abusive father. [ http://afb.com/?id=2037 ]

I'm pleased to say that I did eventually get the balls to not only tell my mum about what had been going on, but I reported him to the police. Now, as a result, I'm seeing the PPU on Thursday, for a video interview, and providing they're happy with the amount of information I give them, he should be getting arrested & taken for questioning early next week. I've also been informed that the MINIMUM charge he'll be facing is 14 years in prison, which would be fantastic as far as I'm concerned.

I'd like to thank everyone who left kind messages and words of support, and I hope this finds you all in good health.

Yes, I do that too. "laugher is the best medicine" as the saying goes... You've probably phased it out, which is why it feels unreal... Not always the best thing to do though. But I'm glad you're not letting it rule your life. Well done!

Yeah, sorta.. Thing is, none of it seems real if that makes any sense. I think
it's because I've put it to the back of my head for so long, it's like it happened to someone else, someone I've never met. It's real odd.
Either way, I'm still not massacreing (?) innocent people, and I'm not a massochist so I guess I'm still kinda sane, dispite what happened. I must just be one of them folk that deal with the most obscene things by having a sense of humor. :)

Yeah, cos regardless of when, it still happened. Apparently it's quite common for people to leave 20 years before reporting crimes like this. It's hard work getting the truth because there's no DNA proof etc, but they have specialists that can read body language as easily as I can read a Beano, so I'm hoping it all goes smoothly and I can remember enough to make a solid impression.

@leNoobe: Well it's 14 years as far as sexual abuse goes. The fact it lasted nearly 10 years adds more time, as does the fact it was incest, with a minor under 13 and the fact that he was a man in a position of trust. So it could well jump up to 50 years in theory. All I know is I want him away from my kid sisters for as long as possible. Even at 14 years banged up, the youngest will be 24 when he gets out.

I don't live with him now, I moved out of the family home 4 years ago, and he left my mum 3 years ago. I had contemplated seeking revenge in my own way, and had thought it through quite thoroughly, even down to actually purchasing a pair of police issue leather gloves, as to not get caught. Then I thought about what I'D be loosing, and my family means far more to me than cheap revenge. Hense me going back on a rule I'd made to myself years ago: I'd never allow myself to be considered a snitch. But, needs must, and I'm sure there'll be plenty of other prisoners that have nothing to loose!
